Re: Patrice Evra Signed
Yes it does Cornish, but who our left back (Cresswell) has been playing there as did our right back Zabaleta, albeit on the right so it's not a position exclusive to central defenders.

With Masuaku suspended I expect Cresswell will be wing back and Rice has been playing left of the back 3.

I can't see Evra at 36 playing WB so my guess is he would more than likely play left side of a back 3 - which is where Rice has mostly been playing since he got his chance in the team.

Re: Patrice Evra Signed
Cresswell is the one who should be wary imo.
Declan shows a willing to do well for the team Cresswell has lost.

Scott_d a back three denotes three Centre backs in with two wing backs doesn't it ?

Vexed

We have had 1 player who has stood out this season and shown some actual potential so of course it's disappointing that we are signing a 36 year old and potentially limiting his chances of development.

Declan Rice has been no worse than any one else in our back 3 so there is no reason why he should not be given an extended run in the team.

Re: Patrice Evra Signed
Hasnt played a game yet and prople are getting outraged about the youths he may possibly displace. WHO is an absolute tardfest when it comes to our youth players who are in all honesty mostly poor.

Anyone still want Martinez up top?

Re: Patrice Evra Signed
Cornish,

Declan Rice has been playing left of the back 3, a position I expect that Evra will be in contention for.

Re: Patrice Evra Signed
Um Declan Rice ain't a fullback or a wingback and never will be.

Private Dancer 10:05 Fri Feb 9
Re: Patrice Evra to sign....
Bellamy criticizing this signing, basically saying Evra won't cope at this level now.

Re: Patrice Evra Signed
I have a big problem with this as it is another kick in the nuts to our youth system.

I expect if he is fit then he will be ahead of Declan Rice even though he has shown great promise this season.

Great work West Ham.

“Stuart Pearce says signing free agent Patrice Evra was a “no-brainer” for West Ham.“

As far as I can see there’s been no suggestion whatsoever that any brain was involved in the decision.

Wasn't rufus when we were in the championship though?

Re: Patrice Evra Signed
Rufus Brevett. Forgot about him. Wasn't the best but he tried hard and still had plenty of bite in him at 35.

I hope Evra is a revelation but I bet he isn't. Any team with above average pace will absolutely arsehole us as they have all season.

Cheers. He certainly has experience of getting humiliated on the pitch. It was a regular occurrence in Ligue 1, even last season.

Re: Patrice Evra Signed
Stuart Pearce says signing free agent Patrice Evra was a “no-brainer” for West Ham.

Speaking exclusively to Jim White on talkSPORT, the Hammers’ assistant boss backed the 36-year-old to have a huge impact on the squad.

Evra, who was sacked by Marseille last year for kicking a supporter in the head before a Europa League game, signed a short-term deal with the Premier League club on Wednesday.

The former France international won the Premier League title on five occasions at Manchester United, while has also lifted the Champions League and two Serie A titles in a glittering career.

"He has got a vast amount of experience," said Pearce. "His reputation goes before him as obviously a man that galvanises the group in many ways. He is very good around the dresisng room.

"The experience he has got and the ability on top of that, it was almost a no-brainer for us.

"He is a natural left-sided player, he is decent in the air as well. Everyone knows about his strengths and we were unanimous that it was going to be a good thing to bring him into the club.

"David brought it up to the coaching staff and everyone saw it as a real positive to bring him into the group. You are bringing a top character into the group that will certainly benefit the squad.”
